Are high gas prices keeping you from taking a summer vacation? Why not take a couple of days to stay-cation? You'll not only save money on gas by staying close to home, but you may also be surprised by what all there is to see and do.

Stay-cation. It's the buzz word of the year in the tourism industry. As tourists who come to Shreveport/Bossier have found, there are plenty of places for family fun.

From petting zoos and a gator park to mini-golf and go-carts. There's Sci-port, IMAX and Riverview Park and a water wonderland with slides for the kids and the young at heart.

For history buffs, there's a museum for every interest, Mardi Gras, military planes, the Multi-Cultural Center of the South. It represents the cultures found in our own backyard.

Making music, of course, is synonymous with the Municipal, home of the Louisiana Hayride. Elvis, after all, was once in the building.

Tour groups from afar come each year to visit the "Stage of Stars and Legends Museum."

The booming arts community is another real find. From Art-Space's eclectic exhibits to the newest hot spot on the downtown scene, the Robinson Film Center.

The doors never close and the action never stops at the casinos. And the horses are always fast on their feet at the track. For those who love the great outdoors, we're not called Sportsman's Paradise for nothing!

For a more leisurely ride, the "Spirit of the Red" river cruise is a history lesson on water and an up-close look at wildlife on the mighty Red's banks.

Then, the silence is broken across town at the fairgrounds with the crack of a bat, where the Shreveport Sports are our boys of summer.

So, why not stay-cation? You won't break the bank and you'll appreciate "home, sweet home" even more.
