The curtains are coming down in the old LSU Hospital Emergency Department. That's good news for patients, like Dee Ann Dennis.
"Its quicker. You can come in they see you right then, " says Dennis.
Dee Ann is talking about the difference between the old and the new emergency department.
In the past, Dee Ann says she waited for hours, but now things are moving much faster.
Dr. Tom Arnold says there's several reasons why.
"We should see a decrease in waiting times. When you only have a small number of beds its very difficult to get that number of patients threw those small number of beds, " says Arnold.
The old LSU Emergency Department held some 25 beds, but the new will house around 55.
Beds will also be separated by rooms now, instead of curtains, offering more privacy for patients, and more opportunities to be with their families.
That old area is now being renovated and when all is said and done, it will combine with the new area, doubling the square footage of emergency space.
Other added benefits include separate entrances going into patients rooms for doctors and families to create less clutter and an entrance on Kings Highway at the front of the hospital, so it's easier to find.
